About
My name is Alexis Chicoine. I am a disability diversity and inclusion consultant, speaker and writer. With 20 years of experience I believe in open authentic conversations and am on a mission to help organizations become disability-confident. I find it rewarding when people have an “aha” moment when they grasp the concept that disability really is an aspect of the overall human experience.
A university graduate with a BSc in Nutritional Sciences and a post graduate diploma in Disability Management I have worn many hats over the years. With an entrepreneurial spirit I owned/managed a coffee house until a car accident in 2000 left me a quadriplegic. Life must go on, so I took up wheelchair tennis and jumped right back into the workforce.
Employed in a number of creative roles (eg, promotions at a national TV station, application support analyst at an international apparel manufacturing company, and coordinating projects for large organizations) I decided it was time to turn things around and focus full-time on assisting businesses on how to become more diverse and inclusive. I have found that education can be one of the most powerful weapons in fighting stereotypes and misinformation.
